Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked today with the representative of the United Nations Secretary General and UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia Francoise Jacob about the partnership with this organisation and the framework of cooperation between the UN and Serbia for sustainable development for 2021-2025.
Brnabic pointed out that she expects that the framework of development cooperation, a document that represents a comprehensive basis for cooperation, after consultations with the relevant ministries, will be adopted soon.
As she explained, the document is harmonised with the national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Agenda until 2030, and through the issues of green transformation and the rule of law in the broadest sense, it also represents the key goals of the government of Serbia.
The UN Coordinator in Serbia stated that the essential goal of action in Serbia is to find ways and provide an adequate strategy in achieving the goals of sustainable development, environmental protection and poverty eradication, but also the area of climate change, which is a new global challenge.
Speaking about environmental protection as one of the most important priorities, the Prime Minister pointed out that the government is working strategically on planning and investments in this sector and that topics such as air quality and protection of water from pollution have become unavoidable in the further development of the country.
Brnabic assessed that the UN team is one of the main partners in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Serbia, and expressed gratitude for the dedicated work, expecting that, through joint work of institutions and civil society, the framework of development cooperation will be successfully implemented in the interest of our citizens.
