The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, talked with the Head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representation in Serbia, Francesca Bonelli today.

Selaković stated that the institutions of our country and the UNHCR have a long tradition of cooperation and partnership, saying that Serbia considers the UNHCR a key international body in terms of humanitarian protection and assistance to refugees and other categories of internally displaced persons who enjoy international protection.

He especially referred to the fact that Serbia has been on the transit route of hundreds of thousands of displaced persons since 2015, and in that sense, he pointed out that our country has shown that it is ready to provide protection and assistance in accordance with international obligations.

As he emphasized, we were among the first to start vaccinating migrants against Covid, and we will continue to show every kind of solidarity towards refugees as a state and people.

The Minister also pointed out that the issue of long-term care for displaced persons in Serbia, both refugees from B&H and Croatia, and internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija, is of special importance for our country.
